The Sticker Shock: Why do prices vary so wildly?
If you have been looking for a Cloudbuster online, you have probably noticed the wild variation in prices. You can find small, brightly coloured resin pyramids marketed under the same name for the price of a restaurant dinner.
Then you see massive copper-and-resin devices that cost a significant amount of money. What is going on here?
The confusion usually comes down to the fact that people use the same word to describe entirely different objects. If you want to know what you are paying for, we first need to clarify what a genuine device actually is.
Reich, Welz, and Croft: What are you actually buying?
Dr. Wilhelm Reich discovered Orgone energy and invented the original Cloudbuster. His device was a bundle of hollow metal pipes connected to flexible cables, which had to be grounded into a body of flowing water.
Reich’s device did not generate positive energy. It simply drew stagnant, toxic energy (DOR) out of the atmosphere and moved it into the water.
Decades later, Karl Hans Welz invented orgonite. He discovered that a simple matrix of metal filings and resin could interact with ambient energy without needing water.
Then Don Croft took this a step further. He added quartz crystals to the orgonite matrix and set copper pipes directly into it.
This created what the gifting community often calls a Chembuster. It is a completely different device from Reich’s original invention, because the orgonite base actively transforms the stagnant DOR into healthy, positive Orgone energy (POR).

The Raw Materials: What drives the cost?
A genuine Croft-style Cloudbuster is a heavy, substantial piece of equipment. You are not paying for a clever brand name or slick marketing.
You are paying for raw, unforgiving physical materials. In our experience, there are no shortcuts here.
The Copper Pipes
We use thick, high-grade copper pipes. Copper is a globally traded commodity, and its price has risen dramatically over the last decade.
You cannot use thin, flimsy copper if you want the device to survive outdoors. The pipes must have structural integrity, and that volume of copper simply costs money.
The Orgonite Base
A true orgonite matrix must be a 50/50 mix by volume of metal shavings and high-quality resin. This is the authentic standard.
Resin is expensive and heavy. Metal is even heavier. A standard Cloudbuster base can weigh upwards of 15 to 20 kilograms before you even insert the copper pipes.
Mixing this density of metal and resin by hand is physically exhausting work. That sheer mass of material is exactly what you are paying for.
The Online Price Bands Explained
Once you understand the material costs, the different price bands you see online begin to make sense. Here is what you are actually getting at each level.
The Budget Bracket
You will often see “Cloudbusters” listed very cheaply on massive e-commerce platforms. Why are they cheap?
In my opinion, these are mostly clear plastic novelties. They are mass-produced in factories, consisting of clear resin with a few decorative metal flakes and perhaps a tumbled stone floating at the bottom.
They do not have the authentic 50/50 metal-to-resin ratio required to function. They also tend to use thin, decorative aluminium tubes instead of structural copper.
At this price point, you are buying a beautiful paperweight. You are not buying a functional environmental tool.
The Hobbyist Tier
In the middle price tier, you will find devices made by enthusiastic beginners. The price reflects their local material costs, which is fair.
However, you are taking a gamble on their understanding of the craft. Mixing a true 50/50 matrix is difficult, and many beginners unintentionally skimp on the metal because it makes the resin too thick to pour easily.
The Authentic Standard
This is where our devices sit. You are paying for a massive volume of raw materials, correctly sourced and correctly poured in multiple stages.
You are also paying for 24 years of continuous operation and refinement. We do not cut corners on the metal density, and we do not use substitute materials.
Whether you are a newcomer wanting to create a calmer home atmosphere, or a serious practitioner engaged in an environmental gifting mission, you need a device that is built to the original standard.
The Reality of International Freight
If you are ordering from us, you are ordering from South Africa. This brings us to the elephant in the room: the shipping costs.
Shipping 20 to 30 kilograms of copper, metal, and resin across the world is a logistical challenge. It requires custom wooden crating so the heavy base does not crush the pipes in transit.
The courier fees often make up a significant portion of your total checkout price. That is simply the reality of moving heavy physical objects across oceans via air freight.
When you compare our prices to a local seller, remember to factor in what you are actually receiving. I would rather you pay for premium DHL shipping on a genuine, heavy Croft-lineage device than get free shipping on a hollow plastic toy.
Placement: Which size should you buy?
Your budget will naturally dictate the size of the device you buy. But size should really be determined by where you intend to put it.
A full-size Cloudbuster is designed to sit outside in the elements. It needs space to breathe.
If you have a large garden or a piece of land, a full-size unit is ideal. You simply place it on the earth.
Because of the orgonite base, it does not need to be grounded into flowing water like Reich’s original invention. However, it still performs best when sitting directly on natural ground.
If you only have a small balcony, a courtyard, or you live in an apartment, a massive outdoor unit might be entirely impractical. In that case, a smaller variation or a few Earthpipes might serve your environment much better.
Buying the biggest device is not always the smartest move if you do not have the right environment for it.
Judging Value over Price
How do you ultimately evaluate value? You look at the weight, the materials, the lineage, and the history of the maker.
